​Dr. S. R. Shankapal, born on 08-01-1960, is a Mechanical Engineering graduate from the University of Mysore studied at MCE-Hassan(1977-1982), with a postgraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering from IIT Madras -Chennai (1984) and Ph.D. degree from BITS Pilani (1998).

          Dr. S.R. Shankapal was the founding Vice Chancellor of M.S. Ramaiah University of Applied Sciences (MSRUAS) established in the year 2013 till May 2018. Earlier to the position of Vice Chancellor, he was President of M.S. Ramaiah School of Advanced Studies for 14 years and ran more than 20 postgraduate programmes in collaboration with Coventry University, UK. He also worked as Pro-Vice Chancellor at PES University, Dayananda Sagar University, and at REVA University and Executive Director -Eastpoint Group of Institutions for small stints.

          Dr. S.R. Shankapal started his career as a lecturer in the year 1984 at M.S. Ramaiah Institute of Technology-Bangalore. His subject areas of interest are Control Systems Engineering, Vehicle Dynamics, Automotive Power Train, and Energy Conversion. He also taught courses like Numerical Methods and Computer Programming. Finite Element Methods, Computational Fluid Dynamics, Heat Transfer, and Engineering Thermodynamics. He was awarded research grants of more than Rs. 100 million from Indian government departments, industries, UKIERI, and EU since 2001. He was awarded an incubation grant of Rs. 525 lakhs by the department of IT, BT, and ST of Karnataka. He has guided 5 Scholars for Ph.D., more than 50 postgraduate theses, and around 60 undergraduate projects. He has published more than 85 research papers, more than 50 blog posts, 9 textbooks in Engineering, created video lectures for 5 courses, delivered more than 45 invited Lectures across the world, and more than 100 training programmes for Practicing Engineers of many tier-1 industries. He has been a very popular consulting engineer for companies involved in CAD/CAM/CAE services. His team consulted more than 500 major CAD/CAE projects for various companies and research organisations during the last 20 years and out of which around 100 CARS projects for DRDO Laboratories. He is a proponent of outcome-based professional education.​He was a merit Scholarship holder throughout his student career, won ISTE student project awards and Team Tech award for Professional Excellence and MAV-07 award, and many academic awards, citations from leading media organisations and Institutions. He was a member of research committees of many DRDO Laboratories and a reviewer for a few international Journals. He has even delivered a TED Talk organised at East Point Group of Institutions.

          Dr, S.R. Shankapal is a member of SAE, CI, ISTE and widely travelled to UK, Germany, France, Italy, Czech Republic, Belgium, Bulgaria, USA, Russia, Nigeria, Ghana, China, Malaysia, Singapore, Srilanka, and UAE interacted with more than 30 Global Universities.
