Research

I completed my masters program - MTech in 1984 specializing in Combustion and Propulsion from IIT Madras , Chennai. My dissertation was on " Multi-Annular Swirl Burners"  where I studied the fuel and air mixture flow characteristics, flame characteristics and temperature profiles across flames.

My PhD Thesis was on " Combustion Characteristics of Biomass Based Slurry Fuels." Pulverized Coconut Shell powder was the biomass, blended with Light Diesel Oil/ Furnace Oil/Water in different proportions to obtain the slurries of required viscosity. The study aimed at arriving the optimum droplet size and droplet distribution for complete combustion of the slurry fuel in retrofitted oil -fired furnaces.

BITS Pilani awarded PhD degree in the year 1998. Subsequent to the award of my PhD, I also supervised a PhD scholar on continuation of my work.

In 1999, I became Director of " M.S. Ramaiah School of Advanced Studies." My research focus shifted to " Computational Fluid Dynamics, Heat Transfer and Combustion in Turbomachinery, and IC Engines." I supervised more than 50 masters dissertations in Advanced Studies till 2013. I published more than 85 research papers. A partial list of research papers published are available on Google Scholar. During 1999-2013, I was awarded grants for research and other projects by several agencies. The following are some of the grants received.

TIFAC- CORE in Digital Image Processing- Rs. 525 Lakhs-Granted by TIFAC-DST, GoI
Agilent Technologies Equipment Grant- $85000 worth of Agilent Measurement equipment

After I became vice chancellor, I conitued to get  grants for various research and projects from Aeronautical Reserach Development  Board, DST, and Karnataka Council for Technology Upgradation.

Training and Skill Development

At M.S. Ramaiah School of Advanced Studies, we had created Center for Continuing Professional and Skill Development. Though This Centre we offered1. Corporate Training Courses; Advanced Certificate Courses; Skill Development Courses .More than 5000 students were trained in the areas of CAD/CAM/CAE, E-CAD, VLSI, Embedded System Development, IoT and many IT programmes. Skill development programmes were offered in Automotive Maintenance, Manufacturing, Product Design and Development.

I conducted training programs to practining engineers from:  TATA Motors; Mahindra;  Eischer Motors; TCS; Infosys; Honeywell Technologies Laboratory; Bosch;  GM;  VOLVO;  GE;  SKF and Many other companies.   I  must have trained more than 5000 practicing Engineers from various companies.

Engineering Problem Solving- Consultancy

At M.S. Ramaiah School of Advanced, a separate team of Engineers was created to solve industrial problems using CAD/CAE  and 3D printing technologies- This Centre was called  SAS Tech later named as Techno Centre under M.S. Ramaiah University of Applied Sciences. I lead the team of almost 25 Engineers and the team completed  more than 600 projects from 2004-2018. More than 110 Projects were from DRDO-Laboratories like GTRE, NPOL, DARE, ADA, LRDE, DARE, CAIR,  NSTL under CARS. The other projects were from ISRO Labs, Public Sector companies and Private companies.  The Centre was financially self sustaining. The consultancy problems were more on
             Finite Element Analysis of Structures
Flow Analysis Using Computational Fluid Dynamics
             Machine Dynamics and Vibrational Analysis
             New Product Development
