It was my longtime desire that I become a hobby farmer. Hobby farming is a small-scale farm that is more for pleasure than business. I was born in a village, and naturally I became familiar with farming practices. However, I was more interested in horticulture. As, I had to leave my village for my higher education, I could not pursue farming. While working for a college as a professor, I tried to be a hobby farmer for a few years. But, I could not continue my hobby farming as I had to grow professionally. My wife and I went through the horror of COVID- 1st wave, and we just discussed why not we go back to our village and do farming, any way I will be retiring shortly. We made this decision after 47 years of leaving our village. During December 2020, we bought some land, we created a farm of our own, and I became a hobby farmer. I feel that is the best way to keep myself engaged during retirement.
At the farm, we have a Farm House; we have Cows, Sheep, Chicken, Fish Pond and Azolla Pond; planted Teak, Silver wood, Coconut, Arecanut, Lemon, Butter Fruit (Avacado), Papaya, Plantain, Mango, Sapota, Jack Fruit, Promogrenade, Guava, Jamun-Indian Blackberry, Cherry, Strawberry, Sweet Lime, Fig, Cashew, Litchi , Wood Apple, Nutmeg, Custard Apple, Apple, Citron Lime (Heralekai), Orange, Chekotha, Coffee, Drumsticks, Curry Leaves, Flowers-Rose, Jasmine and other plants.
